Hi, I am Herbert Mühlburger. I was born in Eastern Tyrol (Oschttiroul) already some time ago. After going to primary school, high school I finished my school career with the “Matura”. Afterwards finishing the (obligatory) military service and travelling through Europe I finally stopped here in Graz, Austria. Currently I am a graduate student of Computer Science at Graz University of Technology. My main focus is software engineering and economics, which is a merged study of the classical computer science and business administration.
The first experience in programming I made with the Java programming language when I was fifteen years old. There in 1999 it was quite demanding to get my Java Development Kit (JDK) downloaded and up running on my Pentium III 500 MHz. Not only because at home I had no internet connection but also because no memory sticks existed at that time. So how to download a (I think) around 30MB Java SDK and transfer it to my home computer? Well the solution was a public bank office near my home town. They offered internet access for free if you went there asking for a code you were able to dial up to web by using a smooth 56K Modem. So internet access was a problem anymore and I started downloading the Java Development Kit. But I asked myself how I should transfer my downloaded 30MB file to my home computer because I wasn’t able to burn it on a CD. Well the solution was a little program to split up the file into 1.44MB files to store all of them on a 3 ½ inch HD Floppy disk. 30MB divided through 1.44MB gives around 21 floppy disks to store my Java Development Kit on. That are lots of disks but no matter, I wanted to start Java programming! So back home again I first merged all of the split parts together and finally installed my Java Development Kit. After the successful installation I started to implement my first “Hello World” program.
Well that was the beginning of my computer science passion which has increased a lot over the last 10 years. Not only that I have learned a lot of new concepts and technologies but also that there are so many interesting things I would like to understand better.
Beside studying I love to travel, to take photos, to hike, to climb, to ranggeln, to judo, to read, to write, to ski, to swim, to run, to lie in the sun, to tweet, to blog, to try all kind of innovative and new things, to listen to classical music, to read newspapers, …
