Today (January 30th 2010), I have upgraded my HP5101 (XP-home) with a Ubuntu 9.10. While doing the install from an USB drive, then upgrading the system with the latest updates (using a wired cable) - everything went very well. Even the broadcom wireless reciever worked out-of-the-box (after doing the standard upgrade and allowing use of the propritary drivers).

If someone's interested, I tried to get the Broadcom 4353 working on my HP Mini 5101 with Ubuntu 9.10, and this didn't work. But what did work, was using ndiswrapper.

I downloaded the driver from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=se&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3973865&prodNameId=3973866&swEnvOID=1098&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-76010-1

Then I followed the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper

Good luck! :)
